When Temptation Comes
What happens when temptation comes knocking? Not if it comes, but when. In Matthew 4, we are brought face to face with one of the most dramatic confrontations in all of Scripture: the moment Satan himself attempts to derail the mission of Jesus in the wilderness. After 40 days of fasting, physically depleted and utterly alone, Jesus faces three calculated attacks from the enemy. What unfolds is not just a story about Jesus, but a masterclass for every one of us on how temptation works and how to stand firm against it. We discover that temptation itself is not sin, that it is common to every human being without exception, and that Jesus, having walked through it himself, is uniquely positioned to help us when we face it. The wilderness experience also reveals a striking pattern throughout Scripture: Moses, David, and Israel all passed through seasons of isolation and trial before stepping into their greatest callings. Could it be that our own difficult seasons are not signs of abandonment, but of preparation?
