Jesus: The One and Only King Worthy of Worship

What does it truly mean to recognize Jesus not just as Savior, but as King? In Matthew chapter 2, we encounter a scene that challenges us to examine the depth of our own response to Christ. Three groups of people come face to face with the reality of a newborn King, and each one responds in a radically different way. The religious leaders knew the scriptures inside and out, could quote prophecy with precision, and yet never took a single step toward Bethlehem. Herod, consumed by his own thirst for control, saw the King as a threat to be eliminated. And then there were the Magi, foreigners with no full understanding of Jewish scripture, who nonetheless saw a sign, got up, and went. They sought. They found. They fell down and worshipped. The question this passage presses into our hearts is not an abstract theological one. It is deeply personal. When Jesus shines a light in our direction, when he speaks through his word, when he places a conviction on our hearts, how do we respond? Do we sit with the knowledge and never move? Do we quietly resist his authority over the parts of our lives we want to keep for ourselves? Or do we rise and seek him, offering him not just our praise but our obedience, our treasures, our allegiance? This is the invitation before us, to move from merely admiring Jesus to truly adoring him as the King he is.
