Beyond the Shallows

Aug 9, 2026    Pastor Seth

What does it look like to truly know Jesus, not just know about him? In this message, drawn from Colossians 1:24-2:3, we are challenged to move beyond a surface-level faith and dive into the vast, inexhaustible depths of who Christ really is. Using the ocean as a powerful metaphor, we are reminded that standing on the shore and admiring the water from a distance is nothing compared to the breathtaking reality of full immersion. The mystery that was hidden for ages and generations has now been revealed, and that mystery is Christ in us, the hope of glory. This is not a theological abstraction. It is a living, personal reality that Paul agonized and suffered to make known. The message calls us to ask honestly whether we have grown comfortable wading in the shallows, settling for a faith that is familiar but not transformative. There is an entire world beneath the surface, canyons of grace, reefs of wisdom, and the surrounding presence of a God whose love is deeper than any ocean we could measure. The invitation is open. The question is whether we are willing to put on the gear and go deeper.
